California employers with five or more employees must provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. A few reminders to keep you compliant:
Training must take place within six months of hire or promotion, and then again, every two years
Employees must attend a minimum one-hour training session
Supervisors need two hours of training
How to count your employees
Count all workers (yes, even out of state workers) including part-time, full-time, temporary employees, unpaid interns, volunteers, and independent contractors.
Note regarding seasonal or direct-hire temporary employees: they must receive training within 30 days of hire or within one 100 hours worked, whichever occurs first.
Note regarding independent contractors, out of state employees, volunteers and unpaid interns: while they are used in your count, they do not have to receive the training.
