The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced an extension of the remote Form I-9 verification ability. During the COVID-19 pandemic, employers can confirm identity virtually or by reviewing a copy of the identification. The employer would then need to verify the identification when the employee visited the office in-person. Employers have until July 31, 2023, to continue utilizing this flexible verification method.

The DHS and ICE also announced that employers should continue to use the version of the Form I-9 dated 10/31/2022. The DHS will announce a new version once it is available. We will keep you posted.
